Made with our ‘Boccallupo’ Sangiovese clone. This clone is from cuttings taken from the abandoned vineyard of my great grandfather on our family farm (Boccallupo) in Tuscany. Planted in 2009 at our ‘Gate’ site. Very low vigour site, steep south-west facing slope with shallow red clay soil (< 10cm) on top of siltstone and mudstone bedrock. Planted at 3300 plants per hectare and worked organically with the aim to achieve full certification by the 2026 harvest. Our earliest ripening clone of Sangiovese with slightly smaller bunches, yield is usually between 4-6 tons per hectare. At harvest we commonly see higher sugar in the fruit whilst still maintaining very high natural acidity. Phenolic ripeness is achieved early with bolder fruit profile and great depth of flavour.
