An inadvertent field blend of approximately 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petit Verdot all mixed together at planting time in 1998 on the Homestead Vineyard. Laying just below the steep Christmas Hills range to the west of Yarra Glen, the expansive easterly aspect and protection of the hills to the west allow the wines to be expressive and full flavoured but with a restraint and subtlety that other areas of the Yarra Valley floor don’t afford.

The crop was hand harvested and placed directly into small open fermenters in the vineyard with only a tiny proportion of the crop crushed by foot on the base of the fermenter, then covered and left for a 14 day maceration before pressing to old 300L oak hogsheads. Allowed to mature throughout the winter, it was racked and bottled in October 2019 with no addition of sulphur dioxide.

Great mouthfeel with balanced acidity and super fine tannins.
