Grapes sourced from the King Valley, North East Victoria.
The Aligoté variety, from Burgundy in France, has been underappreciated for many years and is now finally in favour.
We love its upfront nature; it’s bright, fresh, and full of vitality.
An everyday wine, keep one at the ready in the fridge.

2021 Bandicoot Run Chardonnay
Gippsland
Chardonnay
12.4%
.
.
Organically farmed, made and bottled by us at our home in West Gippsland.
Our Chardonnay was treated relatively simply, with about 25% of of the fruit going through our basket press with intentional oxygen exposure and skin contact (24hrs) while the remainder was direct pressed to barrel or tank for fermentation. Elevage is completed in 50% old oak and 50% tank. We find our chardonnay to be a nice balance between fine minerality and a subtle, waxy richness.

This wine is Made from traditional varieties not using any classic or fine wine methods.
Its always all a bit of an experiment creating the rattlesnake, classic varietals are pushed beyond their boundaries to see what can happen. It’s also important to remember the vineyards are the real stars, these sites produce exceptional fruit reflecting their place.
This wine is made up of many different skin contact ferments. They were assembled all together & bottled in November.

TASTING NOTES
Colour is bright, with rose petal redness, and no browning. A beguiling and complex nose of strawberry coulis, rosewater, Turkish Delight, quince paste, and cassis with hints of musk and violets, a rare character of this variety. These aromatics follow through to the palate, with lively red fruits, and a light tannin persistence. It finishes with an illusion of sweetness, the mark of all good red wine.

2021 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Pret-A-Rouge
Beechworth
Shiraz, Pinot Noir
13%
.
.
Fan favourite, our Prêt-à-Rouge has always intended to communicate something of the intrinsic nature of Beechworth’s recognised red wine structure, in an accessible, earlier drinking frame. We’ve always worked hard to over deliver on succulence and approachability whilst still boasting classic Beechworth structure and savoury length in this wine.
This is a blend of 70:30 Beechworth Shiraz and Pinot Noir from vineyards under uncertified organic management. 2021 should go down as one of the better Beechworth vintages, so this wine absolutely delivers layers of red-fruited enjoyment, savoury complexity and satisfying structure to length. For the first time, there’s about 10% new oak, which simply underpins that evident structure. Think dense black cherry, blood plum, a crinkle of bay leaf herbage and dark sweet florals.

Vineyard
The fruit for this wine is sourced from the original Crawford River vines, planted in the mid 1970’s. The site was selected by the Thomson’s for its cool climate, long growing season and unique soil structure. The vineyard lies at the alluvial edge of a volcanic lava flow. Its roots are in a complex, mineral-rich soil base. Gravelly, friable, basalt loam overlays permeable clay which in turn lies above a limestone base created by an ancient, risen seabed
Winery
This wine was de-stemmed only and had 5-7 days cold soak on skins prior to natural fermentation in open fermenters. Hand plunged during moderate temperature fermentation. Pressed when dry and settled in tank for around 8 weeks before barrelling down. 12 months in mostly old, 100% French Oak, <10% new. No acid addition. Not cold stabilised. Not fined. Bottled October 2020. Winemaker: Belinda Thomson
Glass
The wine is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon & 25% Cabernet Franc. Beautiful lifted, spicedblue fruits and baked red fruit are the primary forces here. Edges of liquorice and spice couple with dried herbs, bay and hints of blackberry leaf to create a lovely layered, complex palate. The tannins are soft and fine and interlaced throughout the long palate. This wine was fermented in mostly old French oak creating a very fragrant, delicious wine from the fine flavoured grapes of the 2019 season.
