Overview: Derek’s 90’s love-affair with dance parties and techno music inspired this range of red wines. He used to make CD for friends with his best DJ mixes and signed them Mixed by DJ Deadly. The Turntable GMS is just another one of his creations.
Vineyard: The DJ Deadly GSM was picked from multiple vineyard sites. The Grenache (80+ year-old-vines) and Mataro (40-year-old-vines) come from a vineyard at the Southern end of the Barossa which is on classic Grenache and Mataro soils, sandy loam over limestone. These types of soils produce wines that have good fruit and awesome depth and texture. The Shiraz was picked from our estate vineyards in Angaston (Eden Valley), giving the wine its mid palate weight and floral lift.
Vintage Conditions: Vintage 2020 was another drought affected vintage. With less than average winter and spring rains the vines produced very small crops. The plus side of this was the quality of the fruit was outstanding with small bunches and small berries producing amazing colour and concentration of flavour.
Derek's Tasting Notes: The colour is mid red, with the nose having lifted raspberry fruit,
earthy/savou ry note s an d swee t spic e lik e clove s and cardamoms. The medium bodied palate displays typical GSM characters with cherries, raspberries, herbal notes, mint and a hint of roasted nuts. The tannins are soft and supple, with the old vine fruit giving the wine lovely mouthfeel and texture. The palate is even and finishes with impressive length of berry fruit and savoury spice, making the wine very approachable and drinkable.
Drink young while it is vibrant and fresh but will age in the medium term for up to seven years.
