Overview: Derek’s 90’s love-affair with dance parties and techno music has inspired this range of red wines. The passion morphed with his school nickname Deadly Derek to became DJ Deadly. He used to make CD for friends with his best DJ mixes and signed them Mixed by DJ Deadly. The Six Strings Tempranillo is just another one of his creations.
Vineyard: The 2022 Six Strings Tempranillo was sourced from a vineyard near Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills. At an altitude of 400m above sea level, this is cool climate vineyard. The grapes were harvested late April 2022, so had plenty of hang time to accumulate the bold flavours Tempranillo is renowned for.
Vintage Conditions: Vintage 2022 was an outstanding vintage for producing elegant and fruit driven reds. With good winter and spring rainfall a good crop of grapes ripened in ideal climatic conditions. The 2022 growing season was cool and and dry, allowing the grapes to hang so they could be picked at optimum ripeness with great flavour and acid balance.
Derek's Tasting Notes: Medium red with lifted cherry, raspberry, mint, thyme and hints of white pepper. Made for maximum enjoyment as a young wine, the focus is the vibrant/juicy fruit. Flavours include raspberry, cherry, wild strawberry and red skin notes. The mid weight tannins from the thick skins of the Tempranillo add a textural element to the wine endearing it to food. It could also be slightly chilled for balmy summer evening drinks.
It's made to enjoy now or cellar for a few years.
